BIOLOGICAL

The roofs of our houses are vegetated. All enjoy Evaporative Cooling (no air conditioning required) and rain water harvesting for domestic and garden use. A green roof is a more durable alternative to the often-used asphalt shingles and eliminates run-off pollution, heat stress in the roof membrane, and overloading storm sewers. The ecological footprint of the building is reduced by restoring the excavated soil and placing it on the roof. Where jurisdiction allows, each house is designed to be able to renovate grey water for other uses. Often, as a utility, a greenhouse is placed centrally within the house, filtering sink and shower water with the roots of plants. Black water (toilet) is evaporated and dried by means of composting.
