GARDEN COTTAGES (2006) Purpose and Goals: The Garden Cottages are proposed to be four 1½ storey homes at 650 sq. ft. each, located on the Toronto Islands. Innovative Techniques: These homes are designed to be energy efficient by means of thick insulating walls and roofs. In addition, solar heat is used for comfort for most of the winter. In-floor heating is used when the sun is not shining. Cost/Beneifts: An economy is made possible as each unit uses identical components, which are placed into the walls in slightly different positions, thus providing a range of identities. |
